ActiveState recently announced the 2.0 release of PerlMx, an email filtering system. According to the company, PerlMx can block more than 98% of unsolicited email at the gateway, securing the network by filtering mail before it reaches the desktop. Dell Announces PowerVault 122T

Dell recently announced the PowerVault 122T, a rack-optimized, automated tape-backup storage system. According to the company, the hardware and software features of the new PowerVault 122T automate the data backup process, helping to consolidate storage backups. The PowerVault 122T’s 2U (3.5 inches) form factor offers a rack-optimized way to backup and protect data on Dell PowerEdge servers or Dell PowerVault Network Attached Storage (NAS) servers.

The PowerVault 122T has one DLT VS80 tape drive and holds eight cartridges for a maximum storage capacity of 320 GB (640 GB with 2:1 compression). The system has a data transfer rate of 3 MB per second (6 MB per second with 2:1 compression). The PowerVault 122T also offers compatibility with previous tape storage technologies. Cypress Releases USB Host Controller Driver for Linux

ypress Semiconductor Corporation recently released its Linux USB host driver supporting the SL811HS embedded host/peripheral controller. According to the company, this driver can provide Linux developers the ability to add USB host functionality to a variety of embedded system applications, such as cell phones, MP3 players, network appliances, and PDAs. Currently, the Linux 2.44 kernel supports the Open Host Controller Interface (OHCI) and the Universal Host Controller Interface (UHCI) specifications for USB host controllers. Since Cypress’s SL811HS is a memory-mapped device, the release of this new driver allows the Linux host stack to provide USB host support without realizing that there is a non-OHCI/UHCI type host controller, which can help engineers to bring their products to market more quickly.
